How to eat a Gatsby

There comes a time when you have to experience the deliciousness that is known as the Gatsby. DevDondidit takes Jessica Da Silva, Deon Bing, Joshua Roode and Garth Malpas on a food adventure to purchase and then try out this amazing unique dish that originates from Cape Town, South Africa. But Before we go there - make sure you like our Facebook Page for more Awesome Cape Town News, views, pics and Videos: The delicious sandwich originated in the Cape Flats around four decades ago and was a cheap and filling meal for families, factory workers and labourers. Over the years, many locals have laid claim to the super sandwich, but without solid proof, these stories are mere hearsay. The name of the meal, however, is believed to be inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel, The Great Gatsby, due to its association with ‘excess’. What we do know is that the Gatsby is a cultural symbol of Cape Town, and is best enjoyed with friends and family. Rule Number 1. The first rule to eating a Gatsby is when you open it up you have got to 'mol' for the chips. Rule Number 2. You have to clamp your hands around it so you don't let the chips fall. Rule Number 3. Each Gatsby needs to be accompanied by a 2l Cabana juice, but most importantly you have to have your own straw. If you lose your straw, you don't get to partake in the juice.
